Mackeson Stout is smooth with a slight chocolate aroma, a soft texture with creamy coffee and roasted notes. Mackeson (Milk) Stout is essentially a sweet stout.
Stouts come in two main varieties – Dry stout (by far the most popular!) and Sweet stout. Milk stouts are made with the addition of lactose, and are sweet, low-alcohol brews. There are oatmeal stouts and oyster stouts. Also there are foreign stouts which are stronger (6.5-8% abv) and have a sweet malt profile and high esters. All of the sweet stouts are noted for their restrained roastiness in comparison with other stouts, and low hop levels.
Mackeson Stout describes itself as "The Original & Genuine" since it was originally brewed by the Mackeson brewery, Kent back in 1907. The brewery has changed hands several times but is now part of the Whitbread brewery which in turn is part of the giant Interbrew portfolio whose brands include Hoegaarden, Stella Artois and Boddington’s to name a few.
Tasting Notes:
Black body with a brown, medium-sized rocky head that almost lasted to the last drop. Roasted characters and milky coffee notes on the nose. Coffee, creamy, sweet and thin malt flavours. Slight chalky texture with a short-to-medium finish.
