An outstandingly rich and complex Dark Belgian Strong Ale brewed by one of only seven breweries in the world officially entitled to call themselves an “Authentic Trappiste Brewery”. Brewed with water, malt, other cereal grains, hops, yeast and sugar to a sufficient high gravity to be called a barley wine, Rochefort 10 is consistently rated by professional beer raters as one of the world's best beers and one that can easily substitute for a fine red wine in many situations. For a real treat, try it with any game, roast meats, steak or even spicey foods like “chillied pork spare ribs". Poured correctly produces a royal dark amber brown clear with a few flecks of dark sediment, and a lasting large tan head and lovely lace on the side of the glass. It has the bite of a good bitter, the velvety smoothness of top stout, all the aromas of a spice cupboard, and the alcohol content of a red wine. The smorgasbord aroma includes floral honeysuckle, sweet malt, hops, sultanas, spices, bubblegum, boiled lollies and a woody yeast. The palate is beautifully balanced across sweet and bitter. Body is rich, smooth and full through the medium strong bitter/sweet dried fruity malty vinous middle, finish and aftertaste.
