Duvel is a high fermentation beer that is still brewed today based on the craftsmanship of yesteryear. Duvel is made using the finest barley malt and hops, with no additives or preservatives. Duvel is not pasteurised and so is entirely pure and natural. Secondary fermentation and long maturation take place in the bottle, giving the beer its highly distinctive taste. When poured into the traditional cup-shaped sampling glass, the beer foams into a generous layer of froth. The balance between a fine aroma and subtly bitter taste give this beer a unique place in the rich tradition of Belgian beer that pairs well with many foods from entrees to desserts. One of the few Belgian Strong Ales that is at its best when served cold.
Tasting Notes:
Pours an attractive gold clear colour with a large long lasting fluffy white head. The aroma from a freshly brewed bottle is really quite magic; sweet floral, nectar, light ginger like spices, yellow ripe apples and sultanas come to mind. Medium bitter, faintly sourdough and citrus-like start, not as spicy on the tongue as the aroma, smooth full body, a complex sharpish tang on all parts of the mouth and long lasting pleasant refreshing dry finish and very pleasant after taste.
