La Gauloise Ambree

|
|
The Ambree pours a slightly cloudy, reddish-amber, with coppery hints and a nice rich head. The aroma is yeasty, hoppy and estery with a sweetish witch hazel quality, leading to a fruity and slightly roasty (crystal malt?) palate very reminiscent of some craft-brewed British BCA bitters. Flowery scents and orange sherbert are in there somewhere and the whole thing is given a salty, ozone-ish, minerally lift from the hops. The finish is initially malty and fragrant, with a slow-developing, well-rounded hoppiness and a few late yeast notes. A well-made, serious and very drinkable beer in the broad style of a spéciale belge.
